When I heard this song on Pandora a few weeks ago, I knew I wanted to make a montage to it. It took me about a week to figure out who I wanted to make this montage of, I contemplated over Jordyn Wieber, Shawn Johnson, and McKayla. For some reason, McKayla and this song just stuck with me.
I decided to do a montage of McKayla to this song because of the adversity she's faced in the past couple years. Going into the 2012 Olympic Vault Final, we didn't know who was going to get silver, and we didn't know who was going to get bronze. But we knew, it was going to be McKayla who took home gold. Well... you all know how the story ended. After the Olympics McKayla went on to the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Championships. Something that was supposed to be a fun way to end the 2012 Olympic Year... McKayla fractured her tibia on the second stop of the tour. Putting an end to her gymnastics for a few months. After three surgeries and endless conditioning, McKayla started training again. Many people thought she wasn't serious about the comeback and they thought it was "impossible". People thought it was just going to be a "Nastia style" comeback (sorry Nastia). And yet, McKayla came back to win two national titles at the P&G championships. After P&Gs was the World Championships in Antwerp. It was the first vault final McKayla was competing in since her out of the ordinary fall in London the previous year. But McKayla came out there and competed like she knew she can, taking home the 2013 World Vault title.
After one more surgery earlier this year, McKayla is now back in the gym training. So what's next for this superstar? Worlds 2015? Rio 2016? Do you doubt her??? Well my guess is... she's going to do everything she can to prove you wrong.
